🎁 Giving Gifts Your Pups Will Love 🎁

The holidays are perfect for showing your furry friends some extra love with thoughtful gifts. While a new chew toy or a festive bandana might seem fun, it's important to choose safe, engaging, and appropriate gifts for your dog's age, breed, and personality.

Avoid anything with small parts that could be swallowed, toxic materials, or excessive amounts of stuffing that can pose a choking hazard. Consider interactive toys that stimulate their minds, like puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing balls, to keep them entertained and mentally challenged.

Sit & Stay Pro Tip — The Do’s and Don’t’s of Pup Presents

When giving your pup their holiday presents, it’s vital to keep their needs in mind. For instance, a festive-looking rawhide bone might be tempting, but rawhide, in general, is considered bad for dogs. Not only can it cause choking and intestinal blockages, but it’s also been known to have toxic chemicals in it.

Stay on the safe side this holiday season with these pawfect presents instead with notes about what to keep a lookout for:

  • Interactive Toys:

    • Puzzle Toys: These mentally stimulate your dog and can be filled with treats to make them work for their reward.

    • Treat-Dispensing Balls: Keep your dog entertained and active while they try to get the treats out.

  • Chew Toys:

    • Durable Nylabones: These come in various shapes and sizes for different chewing strengths. Keep an eye on your pup to ensure they are not eating pieces of the bone.

  • Fetch Toys:

    • Chuckit! Ultra Balls: These bouncy balls are durable and come in various sizes for different breeds.

    • Frisbees: A classic for a game of fetch, choose one made from flexible and safe materials.

  • Plush Toys:

    • Stuffed Animals (with squeakers): Choose ones that are well-made with durable stitching and no small other parts. Take the squeaker away from your pup if/when they remove it.

    • Rope Toys: Good for tug-of-war or chewing, but supervise closely as they can fray. Pieces of rope should not be ingested.

Vet Recommendation — Don’t Go Too Hard for Chews

When you’re shopping for chew toys for your pup, remember that their teeth are not indestructible. Test the strength of the chew by trying to make an indent with your nail. If you can’t, it’s probably too hard for your pup to chew on at the risk of breaking their teeth. Our editor knows firsthand how expensive it is to have broken dog teeth removed.
