๐Ÿš— Getting Your Pup Roadtrip Ready ๐Ÿš—

Over 60% of Americans will travel somewhere to celebrate the winter holidays. Starting with Thanksgiving, people all over the country are hitting the road. But when you have a pup, that often means bringing them along for the ride.

Lots of dogs love car rides (our editorโ€™s Puggle is one of them) but some hate the car โ€” almost as much as they hate loud garbage trucks. When it comes to road-tripping with your best pal, no matter whether they love it or not, there are some key things to do to prepare.

Read on to see our best tips for safely traveling with your dog this season!

Sit & Stay Pro Tip โ€” Safety First

Before you hit the road, it is crucial to consider your pupโ€™s safety. Just like for humans, cars can be extremely dangerous. Especially for readers who live in colder climates, winter can mean hazardous road conditions.

So itโ€™s best to prepare for anything!

Here are some easy tips to get you on the road to safe travel:

  • Get a harness, seatbelt, or car seat โ€” buckling up isnโ€™t just for people.

  • Take a break every 2-4 hours โ€” your pup needs to stretch (and potty).

  • Bring their favorite toy or blanket for a more comfortable ride.

  • If they arenโ€™t used to car rides, acclimate them with shorter rides ahead of time.

  • Pack anxiety relief if you have an anxious rider.

  • Write down your vet information just in case you need it.

  • Use a canopy-style seat cover to protect seats and keep Fido out of the front.

Vet Recommendation โ€” Avoid Pre-Ride Meals

Before setting off on your roadtrip, consider not feeding your dog breakfast. Some dogs can get motion sickness in the car. Avoiding breakfast can deter vomiting.
